Neill Building...our residence for the week.

Our dining hall catering to all allergies, halal, vegan, kosher, vegetarian and all dietary needs.

Today, we were all up and at breakfast by 8 am. Then we headed to the LB Gym where the Finalist’s had their orientation, and Karen and I headed to the Delegate orientation. Both groups viewed a video from Kirsty Duncan the Minister of Science & Sport. Her message congratulated fair participants and voiced her excitement for their dedication, curiosity and passion for science.

Then, we were off to The Richard J. Currie Center for project setup. We didn’t quite finish by lunch time, so we took a break for lunch and headed back to the hall.

After project setup, students engaged in the many fun activities: Finalist Bingo, pin trading, Challenge Code game and campus tours.

Last minute fixes and report drop offs....thank you Dominic from Team UV for letting us back in after closing!

We headed to the Student Union Building for the Opening Ceremonies and Welcome Event at 5:00pm. until 9:00pm. Students received wooden spoon percussion instrument commonly used to accompany the fiddle in Acadian music.

Opening Ceremonies

We headed inside for some good old-fashioned Maritime hospitality! Fantastic food, Maritime music, art duels, and of course fantastic cuisine. And the icing on top, PEI’s very own Chef Michael Smith entertained us with Food Science 101. Bread dough in 60 seconds, emulsification science with salad dressing and the science behind butter. It was spectacular!

All three floors of the SUB were filled with various food stations of local cuisine. Homemade pierogi station, lobster pasta, friendship sub station, fish cakes and more!

Acadian Music

Tim Blais from ACapella Science performed tonight. Unbelievable! Check out his video below. His blend of Science-Art (music) is inspiring. His "Fredtalk" on the patterns in music from harmony to poly-rhythms and note groupings to lyrics, then words...the rise and fall of emotions that make up his science parodies makes science relevant. This is only one of many (Nanbots and Creativity, Evo-Devo, my Despacito advanced biology...,Physics Conundrums and the Big Picture and many more....so cool!)
