BC & Yukon Students Win Big at National Science Fair!

Fredericton, NB – Seventy students from 13 regions throughout BC and the Yukon presented their projects in Fredericton, New Brunswick this week at the 58th Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF). At today's Awards Ceremony, BC and Yukon students received 140 awards and scholarships valued at $194,550 including 6 gold medals, 14 silver medals and 21 bronze medals!

Over 40,000 students participate in Science Fairs throughout British Columbia and the Yukon each year. Two thousand finalists from classroom and community fairs are selected to attend the 13 Regional Science Fairs to compete for awards, scholarship and the chance to join Team BC/Yukon at the Canada-Wide Science Fair. Over 1,500 STEAM educators and professionals from across the province volunteer as mentors, judges, organizers and chaperones allowing our youth to gain the skills and confidence to compete on national and international stages.

Today started a little later with breakfast at 8 am. The weather started out nice and then the clouds rolled in. It was lightly raining on and off all day.

We started off with public viewing alternating with project visiting time until 2:30 pm.

Anson needed a change in venue and he saw the opportunity to energize by taking over the vacant spot at his colleagues project while they were at lunch. His explanation was inventive, informative and truly entertaining. If I could post a video, I would. Mankeerat saw the crowds building, and he too joined in seamlessly to entertain the crowd.

Once public viewing concluded, we returned to our dorms to change for the awards ceremony. All eight young men looked amazing.
